Orlando Dining Round-Up January 8, 2016: Morimoto Asia, Better Than Sex, Chuy’s Tex Mex

In this week’s dining news round-up, we have several restaurant openings, one makes a move, and a local Chef heads to TV. Are you hungry? Let’s dive in…

Morimoto Asia Street Food at Disney Springs
Morimoto Asia Street Food is set to open January 25 at Disney Springs, according to sources. It will be located on the side of the building by the front entrance, and will offer a quick service option to the popular restaurant.

They conducted a test over the New Year’s Weekend with a limited menu that featured Egg Rolls in pork or vegetable (2 for $8), and pre-made salads – Lo Mein and Asian Green with or without duck – in the $10 to $12 range, along with a selection of sushi options for $7-$10. Beverages included green tea, boba tea, and several beers.

I’m told the menu may be tweaked a bit for the opening later this month. I’ll be there to check it out.

Better Than Sex is a dessert-only restaurant that has opened in Ivanhoe Village in Orlando. An outpost of the popular Key West eatery, all the desserts are made on-site from scratch.

They also feature mildly risque names, such as The Morning After (brie cheese & dark Belgian chocolate grilled on homestyle buttered bread kissed with cinnamon sugar, with a shot of strawberry champagne soup for dipping) and Money Shot (Housemade Coffee Liquor topped with a White Chocolate Mousse). Hours are 6pm to midnight Tuesdays through Saturdays.

The new Lakeside Crossing development in Winter Park on Mills Ave, across from Trader Joe’s, will have several new restaurants as tenants. The fifth location for Chuy’s Tex Mex will be joined by Miami-based Bulla Gastrobar, and Kona Grill, an Arizona-based chain which has restaurants in 19 states and Puerto Rico. As a bonus, the complex will also include a parking garage, which should help alleviate the congestion in that area for spaces.

The TownHouse diner in Oviedo has reopened in its new location, at 139 N. Central Ave. According to foodie reports, it’s already in soft opening status, serving up food. The previous building at 9 E. Broadway, where the restaurant sat for over 50 years, is coming down to make way for a major intersection update.
