It may be the holidays, but Fairwinds Broadway in Orlando will be hosting “The Prom” at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts from December 7-12, 2021.

“The Prom” is a musical that follows four Broadway actors lamenting their days of fame, as they travel to the conservative town of Edgewater, Indiana, to help a lesbian student banned from bringing her girlfriend to high school prom.

It was written by Tony Award nominee Matthew Sklar (Elf), and inspired by the 2010 Itawamba County School District prom controversy.

The show features direction and choreography by Tony Award® winner Casey Nicholaw (Mean Girls, The Book of Mormon), a book by Tony Award winner Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone) and Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin (Aladdin), music by Sklar, and lyrics by Beguelin.

“The Prom” was nominated for several Tonys, and won the Drama Desk Award for “Outstanding Musical” in 2019.
