SeaWorld Orlando Returns Rescued Manatees to Natural Habitat this Week
Wednesday morning, SeaWorld Orlando and the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens returned two rehabilitated manatees. A warm water source near the St. John Boat Ramp provided the perfect location for this important manatee return.
SeaWorld Orlando Rescue Team Cares for 800-Pound Pregnant Manatee
The SeaWorld Orlando Rescue Team is now caring for an 800-pound pregnant manatee that arrived yesterday on a U.S. Coast Guard plane from Connecticut.
The manatee, named Washburn, was picked up in Nantucket Sound, but manatees are not native to Massachusetts and the water is too cold for them to survive.

This week I had the opportunity to visit the Manatee Rehabilitation Area at SeaWorld Orlando on the first day it was open to guests, which happened to also be Manatee Appreciation Day.

When a manatee was injured near Satellite Beach, she and her still-nursing calf were quickly attended to by the SeaWorld Animal Rescue Team at SeaWorld Orlando.
The 10-year-old mother manatee was injured by a water craft strike and is currently being treated at SeaWorld for buoyancy issues due to a collapsed lung.
