Looking for something fun to do with the family this weekend? Then head to Downtown Disney to check out the Walgreens Orlando International Dragon Boat Festival October 18 and 19.
Dragon boating is the world’s fastest growing water sport. Twenty paddlers and a drummer combine strength and unity to race in a 40 ft canoe outfitted with a dragon head and tail. Teamwork is everything in dragon boat racing, and synchronicity is more important than strength.
This is the last stop on this season’s racing circuit, and there will be races in Men’s, Women’s, and Mixed Divisions, as well as a Breast Cancer Survivor Division.
The event takes place at the Downtown Disney waterfront at Walt Disney World, and it is free to attend both days. There will be night racing on Friday, Oct 18, from 6pm-9pm. Racing then resumes on Saturday from 8am-5pm.
Due to the ongoing construction at the Downtown Disney parking lots, there will be additional parking at nearby Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon, with shuttle buses bringing people to the event.
