If you love reading, the 4th annual UCF Book Festival should be a must-do event for you.
This year it takes place on April 13, and features books signings, author panels, book appraisals, and special children’s activities, all for free.
Among the authors set to appear are Lisa Scottoline, Heather McPherson, James and Julie Petrakis, Bob Kealing, Kimberly Brock, and former Congressman Lou Frey Jr. A complete list of authors is available on the event’s website.
There is also a children’s zone, as well as a teen zone, with authors and age-appropriate activities.
The whole festival takes place at the UCF Arena and Knights Plaza (50 N. Gemini Blvd) from 9am to 4:30pm. Admission and parking are free.
Though Orlando does have a permanent Cirque du Soleil show, La Nouba, the company occasionally brings one of their touring shows to town.
According to the Cirque website, Quidam will be in Orlando May 15-19, 2013.
The story of Quidam is told via Young Zoé, who is bored; her parents, distant and apathetic, ignore her. Her life has lost all meaning. Seeking to fill the void of her existence, she slides into an imaginary world – the world of Quidam – where she meets characters who encourage her to free her soul.
Tickets run from $35 to $100, depending on the show, and can be purchased online or at the UCF Arena box office.
Say the word chocolate and most everybody with a taste bud will suddenly pay attention.
And now that I have yours, I’d like to inform you that this year’s installment of the popular Festival of Chocolate event will take place the weekend of April 27 through 29, 2012.
Last year it was held at the Orlando Science Center, but this year it’s being held across town at the UCF Arena. This is good, as hopefully it’ll invite more vendors to participate.
In addition to tasty chocolate creations to purchase, there will bedemonstrations by world renowned pastry chefs, a Cocoa Coutoure Fashion Show, chocolate and wine pairings, hands-on classes, a one-of-a-kind chocolate museum, Kids-4-Chocolate workshop, crazy chocolate contests for adults and children, the chocolate game show stage, and live professional competitions.
Daily ticket prices are $15 for adults and $9 for kids. The event runs 4-10pm on Friday; 10am-6pm on Saturday; and 10am-5pm on Sunday.
