Pink Talking Fish will be playing Plaza Live! Orlando on May 19

Pink Talking Fish will be playing a FREE show at Plaza Live! Orlando on May 19, with South Florida’s The Heavy Pets opening.

Pink Talking Fish is a hybrid tribute fusion act that takes the music from Pink Floyd, The Talking Heads and Phish, and fuses it together.

For instance, the band, featuring Eric Gould on bass, Richard James on keyboards, Zack Burwick on drums and Dave Brunyak on guitar, will take Phish’s “Sand” and meld it into the groove of The Talking Head’s “Slippery People”. If you’re a fan of these three bands, you might want to check them out.

Opening the show will be The Heavy Pets, which features the talents of Jeff Lloyd (guitar/vocals), Mike Garulli (guitar/harmonica/vocals), Jim Wuest (keys/vocals), Jamie Newitt (drums/vocals), and Tony D’Amato (bass).

They’ve been embraced by the jam music scene for their blend of rhythm & blues, jazz, funk, disco and reggae with rock & roll, and have been called “a living, breathing force of nature” by Relix Magazine.

The Heavy Pets to Rock Orlando at the House of Blues August 30, 2014

The Heavy Pets

Fans going to see Umphrey’s McGee at the House of Blues Orlando on August 30, would do well to get there early to see the openers, South Florida’s The Heavy Pets.

To call this quintet a “jam band” doesn’t quite do justice to their sound, which takes a classic rock sound and mixes in jazz, funk, R&B, reggae, and more. They’ve been called “a living, breathing force of nature” by Relix Magazine, and their live performances have gotten them raves at festivals ranging from Bonnaroo to AURA.

The Heavy Pets have recently released the latest in their EP series, Rags and Aces, and its three songs sound great, but are quite different from each other. “Movie Star” is a light summery reggae-influenced pop tune. “Dewpoint” is a jazzy little funk number that segues into disco territory. “Chew” wraps up the release with an indie rock ode to long nights of indulgence. The EP is available to stream and purchase at http://bit.ly/THPRagsAces.
