Changes at Pointe Orlando Include a New Hard Knocks Location and Two Departures

Pointe Orlando, Hard KnocksPointe Orlando, the shopping/dining/entertainment complex on I-Drive, near the Orange County Convention Center welcomed a new tenant July 22, when Hard Knocks opened on the second level.

Hard Knocks is an indoor combat simulator, that should fare well with the tourist traffic in that area. It replaces The Pointe Performing Arts Center.

Another business that will soon be departing the second level is long-time tenant Hooters. Its lease expires in December, and it will not renew. No word on what will fill that space yet.

Marlow’s Tavern to Open in Pointe Orlando in October

The dining options at Pointe Orlando will grow next month, when Marlow’s Tavern opens.

The restaurant is a neighborhood pub-style of eatery, which started in Georgia. Food is described as “classic dishes that are updated to a gourmet level.”

A look at the Atlanta menu shows plenty of seafood dishes, along with burgers, sandwiches and salads. And of course with “tavern” in the name, Marlow’s will offer a wide variety of wines, beers, and cocktails.

Marlow’s Tavern will open at Pointe Orlando on October 9, 2012.

Shawn and Marlon Wayans to Appear at Orlando Improv in July

Comedians Shawn and Marlon Wayans will be bringing their live show to Orlando at the end of this month.

 The brothers will be appearing at the Orlando Improv for six shows from July 26 – 29, 2012. They will be doing one show each on Thursday and Sunday, and two shows each on Friday and Saturday.

Shawn and Marlon first rose to fame as cast members of the Emmy Award-winning comedy series, “In Living Color.” They also created and starred in “The Wayans Bros.” TV sitcom.

The brothers have also appeaared both together and separately in films like White Chicks, Scary Movie and G.I.Joe.

Tickets are $40, but for $10 more, you can get upgraded to VIP and get a 20-minute meet and greet with Shawn and Marlon.

Funky Monkey Expands at Pointe Orlando

Opening up a second location at Pointe Orlando has turned out to be a good thing for the Funky Monkey Wine Company. It’s proven to be so popular that they’re already expanding.

They’re adding a new dining room with 75 more seats, a sushi lounge, a sake bar and doubling the size of the kitchen.

Besides the Pointe Orlando location, Funky Monkey has their original location at 912 N. Mills Ave. Both are open at 4:30pm Monday through Friday, and at 5pm on Saturday and Sundays.
