City of Orlando, Orlando Magic, Orange County, and Orange County Supervisor of Elections Bill Cowles

This week the City of Orlando and the Orlando Magic jointly announced the Amway Center will serve as an early voting location for the upcoming 2020 elections.

The decision is part of a larger initiative spearheaded by NBA teams around the country to increase ease of access to voting during a particularly crucial election cycle.

Last month we reported that the NBA was looking to restart its 2019-2020 season, and was in talks with Walt Disney World to host the games at its ESPN Wide World of Sports complex (WWoS).

This week, the NBA Board of Governors today approved a competitive format to restart the 2019-20 season with 22 teams returning to play and a tentative start date of Friday, July 31.

Orlando Magic Get City Council Approval for Downtown Entertainment Complex

Earlier this week, the Orlando Magic got the go-ahead from the City Council to invest $200+ million into an new sports entertainment complex that will be built across the street from Amway Center.

The mixed-used venue will feature a corporate headquarters for the Magic, as well as a six-story office building with shopping and dining options, a hotel with a conference center, a residential tower, two parking garages, and a landscaped pedestrian plaza with multiple giant video screens.

City Council Approves Deal for New Orlando Magic Entertainment Complex in Downtown Orlando

In a unanimous vote on Monday (Nov 4), Orlando City Council members voted to approve a real estate deal that would see a new Orlando Magic entertainment complex in the space now occupied by Orlando Police Headquarters downtown.

That block, which borders the north side of the Amway Center, at Church Street, would house the new Magic headquarters in phase one of the project. Phase two would see the addition of a hotel, a convention center, office space, commercial space (stores/restaurants) and a public parking garage (to replace the existing one that will be demolished to make room for the plaza that faces the Amway Center).

The Orlando Police Department would be relocated.

Families Invited to Flick-or-Treat with Orlando Magic on October 30

Due to contract talks, the Orlando Magic isn’t on the court doing their thing, but that’s not stopping them from holding their Flick-or-Treat Halloween event at the Amway Center.

The party starts at 1:30pm on Sunday, Orlando 30, 2011, with Fan Fest on Church Street outside the Amway Center. There will be a bounce house and other inflatable games for the kids.

At 2pm, the doors will open and Orlando Magic coaches, STUFF the Magic Mascot, and Magic Community Ambassadors Nick Anderson and Bo Outlaw, among others, will welcome families to trick or treat on the terrace and promenade levels. There will also be other fun events happening like face painting for the kids.

Around 3:15pm, an animated film (no title has been announced) will air on the Magic TV screen at center court, with the whole event wrapping up by 5pm.

The event is free to the public and they encourage everyone to wear family-appropriate costumes to the event. Sounds like fun for all.
