Hyatt to Buy Peabody Hotel in Orlando; Famous Ducks to Retire

This week it was announced that the Peabody Orlando Hotel will become a Hyatt before the end of the year.

Peabody Orlando Hyatt Hotels Corp is reportedly purchasing the Orlando landmark for $717 million, and when the sale is complete in October 2013, it will rename the hotel the Hyatt Regency Orlando Convention Center.

The Peabody underwent a $440 million renovation a few years ago that added a new 750-room guest tower that brought the total number of rooms to 1,641. The renovation also extended to an upscale spa and grotto-style pool complex, a hiking trail, and a large parking garage.

In addition to its own convention space, the hotel is primely situated next to the Orange County Convention Center.

But what about the famous Peabody Ducks? They have been making the daily march to and from the lobby since the hotel opened in 1986.

According to the Orlando Business Journal, the ducks will be retired early to a farm where they will be prepared to go back into the wild.
