As we become more aware of healthy eating, it becomes more important that we know where our food comes from. One of the best ways to do that is to buy from local farmers and gardeners.

If you want to know who some Orlando-area local food producers are, then you’ll want to check out this weekend’s Winter Park Harvest Festival.

The event, held on Saturday and Sunday, November 19-20, 2011, focuses on the grass-roots food movement in Orlando.

On Saturday, there will be seminars and workshops on the local food system, including cooking demonstrations and organic gardening sessions. This costs $50 per person ($60 with a box lunch).

The day will be capped by a “farm-to-table” dinner of locally-sourced foods prepared by some of Winter Park’s most talented chefs prepared by chefs from the Ravenous Pig, Luma on Park, K Restaurant Wine Bar, Cuisiniers, Fatto in Casa, Big Wheel Provisionsand Spanish River Grille. The dinner costs $125 per person, including wine pairings.

Sunday there will be a  farmer’s market where people can buy for their own homes. General admission to this part of the  Harvest Festival is completely free.
