Universal Orlando Announces Joss Whedon’s Cabin in the Woods as Haunted Maze Theme for Halloween Horror Nights 23

Cabin in the Woods Halloween Horror Nights 23One of the best horror movies in a long time was Cabin In the Woods. This week, Universal Orlando has annouced the film would be the basis for one of the new haunted mazes for Halloween Horror Nights 23.

From the minds of Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard, Cabin in the Woods paid homage to classic horror within the completely original story of a group of college friends who vacation at an isolated cabin, only to find they’re part of a much larger game.

For this maze, Universal’s Entertainment team is partnering with LIONSGATE (the film’s distributor) and film director/co-writer Goddard to deliver a movie-quality haunted house experience that’s authentic to the film and places guests in the middle of an ancient fight for survival.

“This is a twisted dream come true for me,” said Goddard. “The Universal team has done an amazing job making all the terrifying aspects of ‘Cabin’ come to life, and horror fans will not be disappointed. Also, they said they’d let me dress up like a merman and scare people, so I’ll see you guys there.”

I’m excited to see how they translate the unique aspects of the film into a haunted house format (Goddard better not be kidding about that Merman!).

Halloween Horror Nights 23 will frun from September 20 to November 2, 2013.

Busch Garden Tampa Scares Guests with Howl-O-Scream for the 13th Year

This is year #13 for Busch Garden’s annual Howl-O-Scream Halloween event, and they are using that number to good effect.

Nowhere is that more evident than one of the new horror houses: Circus of Superstition 3-D. The Trickster will command crazed circus clowns to challenge you to survive 13 superstitions in their 3-D Tent of terror.

.

Another new house is called Blood Asylum. In it, a serial killer called “The Creature” escapes his holding cell in a mental hospital. He then proceeds to kill everyone he meets, turning the hospital into a bloody playground.

Other returning houses will test your fear with vampires, zombies, mutant possessed dolls, and even the legend of Edgar Allen Poe.

Also new this year is the show “Fiends,” featuring creatures of the night and their deranged dance party, along with Dr. Freakenstein.

“Dark Side of the Gardens” is the official theme for this year’s event, and there will be plenty of scare zones in addition to the horror houses and shows.

Another thrill for guests will be the opportunity to ride the park’s adrenaline-fueled coasters in the dark.

There is a “Freaky Preview” of Howl-O-Scream the weekend of September 21 and 22. After that, the event runs the following dates:

  • Sept. 27-29
  • Oct. 4-6, 11-13, 18-20 and 25-27

Halloween Horror Nights Returns to Universal Orlando for its 22nd Year

Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights is considered one of the best Halloween events in the country. The Orlando version will be turning 22 this year, and they have a bunch of new scares for guests to enjoy.

.

As we mentioned earlier this month, Halloween Horror Nights highlights this year will include haunted houses/mazes themed to The Walking Dead and Silent Hill, as well as ones designed by Alice Cooper and Penn and Teller.

Last night at midnight, full details were released on the event’s Facebook page.

Besides the four new houses/mazes, one of the biggest pieces of news is that Universal has done away with the “scare zones.” According to the park:

“And we’ve got a completely reinvented street experience… They will find you and invade your personal space like never before. There will be no boundaries. The rules of the past will no longer apply. Roaming legions of menacing beasts, vampires, prisoners, warriors and more will inhabit every corner of the park. There is no escape.”

That means there are no safe areas in the park, anymore (except, hopef Read more
