Free Movie Night at Florida Mall on April 20, 2012

Wondering what to do with your family that won’t cost a lot of money this upcoming weekend?

Florida Mall has just the thing, with the next installment of their Movie Under the Stars program.

It takes place this Friday, April 20, as soon as it gets dark, over by the H&M. Just drive around until you see the big 35 foot jumbotron in the parking lot.

This month’s movie is We Bought a Zoo, starring Matt Damon. In it he plays a father who moves his young family to the countryside to renovate and re-open a struggling zoo.

So bring some chairs to sit on and enjoy a free night out with your family courtesy of the Florida Mall.

Gamers Will Want to Check Out Simon GamePlay This Weekend at Florida Mall

This weekend is Florida’s back-to-school tax-free weekend, but if you happen to be a gammer, you may want to visit the Florida Mall and not just for the deals the various stores will be having.

The mall will be hosting the Simon GamePlay event during which gaming fans can get behind-the-scenes peeks at game codes and meet some game developers in person.

There will also be giveaways, freebies and more.

Look for the gaming area inside near Saks from 10am to 6pm on Saturday, August 13, and Sunday, August 14, at The Florida Mall.

I don’t know what games are being featured, but the event is being held in conjunction with GameStop, so there will probably be a good variety.

For those 18 and over, there is also a separate Toyota Test Drive event happening in the mall’s parking lot the same days. You can test out some of the latest models and drivers even get a free gift.

The Florida Mall is located at 8001 S. Orange Blossom Trail, at the intersection with Sand Lake Rd.

Florida Mall to Host Free Monthly Movie Nights Starting in August 2011

According to the Florida Mall, starting next month, they will be hosting a free family movie night on select Fridays.

The monthly event will kick off on August 5, 2011, when the mall teams with Radio Disney for the Phineas and Ferb Across the 2nd Dimension premiere party.

The family friendly shindig kicks off at 7pm with games and a trivia contest, plus there will be a chance to win a trip to Disneyland in California. The movie itself starts at 8pm on a jumbotron parked outside of the H&M store. Phineas and Ferb will even be there for the kids to meet.

Future movies include Despicable Me on September 9 and Alice In Wonderland on October 7 (not sure if this is the animated Disney version or the live-action version with Johnny Depp).

Don’t miss out on this great chance to do something fun with the family for free! Contact the mall at 407-851-7234 for more info.

Florida Mall to Get First Electric Car Charging Station

As more and more people buy electric cars to deal with the rising cost of gas, there comes the need to have ways to charge these cars when out and about running errands.

This week the Florida Mall unveiled a new electric-vehicle charging station near its food-court entrance. The station is self-service; just pull up and plug in. It has the capability to “top off” or partially charge a customer’s electric vehicle in a 60 to 120 minute time frame.

According to the mall, charging will be free for an introductory period and then a fee will be assessed for use. But the mall rep didn’t know how long the charger would be free or what the cost would be after.

Anyone know of any other places in Orlando with the charging machines?

Free Aveda Coupon For the Florida Mall Store

I’ve mentioned it before – I love Aveda. I love the natural fragrances and I love that they don’t test on animals. Plus, the products just work really well for me.

As a treat for CitySurfing Orlando readers, the Florida Mall Aveda store has given us a coupon to share with you.

With it, you get a free Tea Ritual, a free hair care consultation, a complimentary Ritual of Renewal (I’m a fan of the Stress-Relieving Neck and Shoulders Ritual), and 2 free samples of shampoo and conditioner (as determined from your consultation).

There’s no hard sell and it’s a great way to try out the Aveda brand.

How do you get all of this? Simply click the coupon below, print it out and bring it to the Florida Mall store here in Orlando.

If you live outside of Orlando, I’m told the coupon is also valid at any Aveda corporate store.

Thanks Thi!

Lush at Florida Mall Celebrates Anniversary

This weekend, my roommate and I stopped by the Lush store at the Florida Mall. I was hoping to pick up some Tramp shower gel, but alas, the company only sells that fragrance online now (boo!).

However, it seems that Saturday happened to be the 5th anniversary of that store being open.

There were two flavors of vegan cake (both yummy!) and some soda for the customers. The staff were also dressed up in costumes for a contest to name what Lush products they represented.

Judging by the packed store, this Lush location will be around for a while to come. Congrats on a great milestone!

Aveda Florida Mall Raises Funds for SPCA of Florida

This weekend, Aveda at the Florida Mall were holding a charity fundraiser, so my roommate and I swung by to check it out on Saturday.

From the nearly full donation jar, it looked like they were doing a great job. I poked around a bit and then sat down with Thi for a consultation.

First we did a chakra aromatherapy test, and it said my root chakra would benefit most. Coating her palms with a mixture of massage oil and Aveda’s Chakra 1 body mist, she gave me a really nice neck massage as light smells of patchouli, vetiver (an Indian grass) and olibanum (frankincense) wafted around me.

We then talked about my hair and she showed me the new Be Curly line Aveda has. I have to say it smelled great – very clean and earthy – and I liked that the styling products didn’t weigh down my hair.

Thi said that their store loved to hold fun events on weekends, so if you happen to be at the Florida Mall, swing by and see what’s happening.

Lush Florida Mall Orlando Offers Holiday Shoppers Curb-Side Pick-Up

I first fell in love with Lush bath products thanks to my friends Jill and Jen. So when this little bit of news dropped in my lap (ok, I saw it on Facebook), I had to share.

The Lush store at Orlando’s Florida Mall is offering holiday shoppers curb-side pick-up.

Just call the store ahead of time, place and pay for your order over the phone and they’ll meet you outside with the bag(s) and receipt.

How easy does that make crossing people off your Christmas list?

For those not familiar with Lush, the company offers products made with no preservatives and minimal packaging. They not only do not test on animals, but they use only fresh, organic fruit and vegetable ingredients, along with essential oils and safe synthetics. The prices are reasonable for their products, too.

Oh yeah – everything smells yummy, too!

So window shop Lush online and then call 407-854-5874 to order.

Reminds me…I need to pick up some more Tramp shower gel. =)
