After being empty for several years, the former OUC building, located at on the southern side of downtown Orlando, will now be transformed into something else.
Aloft Hotels, a boutique branch of the W hotel chain, will be opening its first Orlando hotel in the building. It will be receiving financial help from the city because they are agreeing not to change the historical exterior.
When done, Aloft Orlando will have 118 guest rooms, a Wxyz bar with cocktails and music, a Re:mix lounge providing a quiet space for guests, and more than 5,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space.
The hotel expects to open August 1, 2013.
