Orlando Shakes presents ‘Josephine’ at Lowndes Shakespeare Center, Orlando

March 3

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 12:00 am on Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, repeating until March 28, 2021

Orlando Shakespeare Theater has announced it has changed and shortened its name to "Orlando Shakes," as a way to better represent the theater's mission and diverse body of work.

Created by Tymisha Harris, Michael Marinaccio, and Tod Kimbro, this critically-acclaimed, off-Broadway musical combines cabaret, theater, and dance to tell the story of the iconic Josephine Baker, the first African American international superstar and one of the most remarkable figures of the 20th Century.

Josephine is a brilliant, one-woman tour de force that celebrates Josephine’s life journey, while highlighting her most famous acts, from songs like “Blue Skies” and “La Vie en Rose,” to the dance routine that established her stardom, the danse sauvage, also known as the banana dance.

Please Note: This production features partial nudity, on-stage wardrobe changes, and sexually suggestive dances where the actor is only wearing pasties, underwear, and fishnet stockings.

This event is general admission outdoors in the newly tented Darden Foundation Courtyard with socially distant tables starting at $45 per person. (Only 2-Person tables are available for purchase online.)
