This Labor Day weekend, the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens in Sanford is turning up the fun during “Red, White & Indigo: Celebrating Wild America” on Saturday, September 5th, from 9am to 5pm.
The all-new celebration brings together family fun, live entertainment, delicious food and inspiring conservation stories for a day filled with animal adventures. Throughout the day, guests can enjoy music from a live DJ, family activities throughout the Zoo, special animal presentations, Keeper Chats and interactive experiences.
At the heart of the celebration is the Orianne Center for Indigo Conservation (OCIC), where the Zoo is working to restore the Eastern indigo snake to its historic range through breeding and reintroduction efforts. Guests can hear from Dr. James E. Bogan, Jr. during a special presentation and learn more about the Zoo’s hands-on efforts to return these remarkable snakes to the longleaf pine forests of the Southeast.
And, of course, there will be plenty to eat! The limited-time Red, White & Indigo menu will feature American favorites like moked brisket, pulled chicken, potato salad and kettle chips, plus sweet treats and refreshing favorites including fresh lemonade, funnel cakes, Rocket Pop Floats and Firecracker Shaved Ice from Swirl.
Guests can also enjoy all their favorite Zoo experiences, including giraffe feedings, Barnyard Buddies, the Herpetarium, the splash pad, train rides and more.
Admission is $25.95 for adults, $21.95 for seniors and $19.95 for children ages 3–12. Children 2 and under are free. Annual passholders can enjoy Red, White & Indigo as part of their annual membership, with a suggested $2 donation at the Admissions window supporting conservation efforts at the Zoo’s OCIC.
