Second Florida Back To School Sales Tax Holiday Kicks Off January 1, 2024

Florida Back To School Sales Tax Holiday

Winter break is almost over for school kids in Florida, and the state has decided to launch a second Back To School Sales Tax Holiday of this school year.

The extra holiday will run January 1-14, 2024, and like the summer Back To School Sales Tax Holiday, will allow Florida shoppers to purchase qualifying back-to-school supplies exempt from tax.

During this holiday period, Florida law directs that no sales tax or local option tax (also known as discretionary sales surtax) will be collected on purchases of:

  • Clothing, footwear, and certain accessories with a sales price of $100 or less per item
  • Certain school supplies with a sales price of $50 or less per item
  • Learning aids and jigsaw puzzles with a sales price of $30 or less
  • Personal computers and certain computer-related accessories with a sales price of $1,500 or less, when purchased for noncommercial home or personal use

The sales tax holiday does not apply to the rental or repair of any of the qualifying items. Additionally, the sales tax holiday does not apply to sales in a theme park, public lodging establishment or airport.
