“Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird” is coming to Orlando’s Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts March 21-26, 2023, and here is everything you need to know about the show.
The play is based on the classic 1960 novel “To Kill A Mockingbird” by author Harper Lee, and tells the story of Atticus Finch, a lawyer in 1930s Alabama, as he defends Tom Robinson, a black man falsely accused of rape.
Academy Award winner® Aaron Sorkin (“West Wing”) has adapted the novel a bit for this production which has Atticus as the protagonist, not his daughter Scout, allowing his character to change throughout the show.
Additionally, in Sorkin’s version, the narrators are all three kids, remembering and retelling the story now as adults, instead of Scout serving as narrator.
The “Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird” touring production features Emmy Award–winning actor Richard Thomas as Atticus Finch. The actor has amassed a huge body of theater work over the years, along with many roles in film and TV, but will forever be known as John-Boy Walton in the 1970s television series “The Waltons.”
