Last month, the Orlando food community lost one of its own when Chef Charles “Chuck” Cobb of Git’ N Messy BBQ passed away. At the time I wrote of his death, I mentioned a memorial event was in the works to help out his family, and now I have the details.
On May 12 (this Wednesday) several Orlando restaurants will be participating in BBQ Around Orlando. Each one will feature one special dish/drink for the day, and the proceeds from this dish will go directly to Chuck’s wife and four children.
Among the participating restaurants are:
- Hunger Street Tacos
- MX Taco
- Swine & Sons
- Taglish
- Perla’s Pizza
- Pom Pom’s Teahouse & Sandwicheria
- Smoke & Donuts
- Neon Beach
- Kai – Asian Street Fare
- Ivanhoe Park Brewing Company
- Tornatore’s Ristorante and Italian Market
- Tapa Toro
- Taverna Opa Orlando
- Red-Eye’s Git N Messy Smokehouse & Tavern (Chef Cobb’s BBQ restaurant)
Keep an eye on each restaurant’s Instagram for the announcement of what dish/drink they’re offering for the event. I’ve provided all the links above.
I think this is a great way to honor Chef Cobb, help out his family, and come together as a community. If you visit any of these restaurants, be sure to post your photos.
