CitySurfing Orlando's Guide to 2020 Holiday Events in Central Florida

The winter holiday season in Orlando is usually full of festivals and events celebrating Christmas and other holidays, but with the pandemic, the 2020 holiday season looks very different.

But there are still plenty of events to enjoy, and I’ve picked out the best ones (and the ones adhering to safety guidelines of masks and social distancing).

From ongoing events to limited time events, here are my picks for holiday events to enjoy this season:

ONGOING HOLIDAY EVENTS

BOGGY CREEK AIRBOAT ADVENTURES, KISSIMMEE – THE JOLLY CREEK HOLIDAY MUSIC FESTIVAL
Through December 13.
Each Friday through Sunday, enjoy Christmas concerts, holiday photo ops including Santa, food, and family fun. Tickets are $15 adults/$10 kids under 13. Airboat rides available for extra fee.

BOK TOWER GARDENS, LAKE WALES – HOLIDAYS AT BOK TOWER GARDENS
Through January 3, 2021.
Enjoy holiday decorations and Carillon concerts on select dates. Most concerts included with admission.

CRANES ROOST PARK, ALTAMONTE SPRINGS – LIGHT UP THE HOLIDAYS
Through January 3, 2021.
Enjoy over 200,000 lights on more than 100 holiday displays powered by Duke Energy. The highlight in the park is the 60-foot tall Christmas tree with more than 8,000 energy-efficient LED lights, 2,600 ornaments and over one mile of garland. Plus Santa Tuesdays, and holiday characters and music on select dates. Free admission and free movies Dec 10 and 17.

CRAYOLA EXPERIENCE, ORLANDO – COLORFUL CHRISTMAS
Through January 4, 2021.
Enjoy life-sized holiday animatronic characters, a musical light show, and create unique Crayola gifts. Included with admission.

DAYTONA INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY, DAYTONA BEACH – MAGIC LIGHTS OF DAYTONA
Through January 2, 2021.
The speedway is decorated with holiday lights and guests can enjoy it from their vehicle. On Wednesdays (except Dec 23) guests can drive through twice on one ticket. Tickets start at $17.

DISNEY SPRINGS, WALT DISNEY WORLD – CHRISTMAS TREE STROLL
Through December 30.
Enjoy a collection of elaborately decorated Disney Christmas trees spread throughout the neighborhoods of Disney Springs. There are also special treats for purchase in many of the food venues. Free admission and parking.

GATORLAND, KISSIMMEE – HOLIDAY HO HO HO-DOWN
Through December 20
The Gatorland Holiday Experience, included in the regular price of admission, features holiday displays, interactive characters, and holiday singers throughout the park, as well as a Very Merry Train ride. Specialty festive food items will also be available for purchase. Included with admission.

GAYLORD PALMS, KISSIMMEE – CHRISTMAS AT GAYLORD PALMS
Through January 3, 2021.
New to this year’s event is I Love Christmas Movies, an immersive, walk-through experience featuring scenes from five beloved Christmas films, and Snow Factory, a snowy play space with ice tubing and an interactive snowball area, plus enjoy dazzling live performances, a festive breakfast with the Grinch, gingerbread decorating and more. GIVE KIDS THE WORLD, KISSIMMEE – NIGHT OF A MILLION LIGHTS
Through January 3, 2021.
For the first time ever, guests can experience the childlike wonder of our magical, whimsical Village during a walk-through, fully immersive holiday light spectacular. Proceeds benefit GKTW. Tickets are $25-$40 for adults, and $15-$20 for kids. Read our preview for more details.

ICON PARK, ORLANDO – SANTA WORKSHOP EXPERIENCE
Through December 24.
Take photos with Santa in a COVID-safe experience with a plexiglass barrier between Santa and you. Children get free ride on The Wheel, with discounts for the rest of the party. Read our preview for more details.

LAKE EOLA PARK, ORLANDO – EOLA WONDERLAND CHRISTMAS TREE SHOW
Through January 10, 2021.
During the show, the Eola Wonderland Christmas Tree comes alive with synchronized light and music. The show will take place at the following times: 5:45pm; 6:45pm; 7:45pm; 8:45pm, and 9:45pm. Free.

LAKE NONA TOWN CENTER, LAKE NONA – OH! WHAT FUN! A HOLIDAY FESTIVAL
Dec 5 through 27.
Oh, What Fun!® transforms the heart of Lake Nona into a winter wonderland complete with outdoor skating, snow, twinkling lights and dazzling decorations, festive treats, and one-of-a-kind performances guaranteed to spread some much-needed holiday cheer. Free admission and parking. Fees for some events.

LEGOLAND FLORIDA, WINTER HAVEN – HOLIDAYS AT LEGOLAND
Through December 31.
This jolly time of year features a combination of seasonal shows and treats, special LEGO characters, twinkling lights, fireworks on select nights and more. Included with admission. Read our preview for more details.

LEU GARDENS – DAZZLING NIGHTS
Through January 3, 2021.
Leu Gardens is transformed into a holiday outdoor three-quarter mile interactive experience suitable for all ages, including a 30? tall Christmas tree, a 65? long tunnel of light, interactive ground lights that ring like holiday bells when stepped on, a “forest” of fog and light, and even snow and holiday music. THE MALL AT MILLENIA, ORLANDO – HOLIDAY WANDER
Through December 24.
Experience a magical world of candy cane swirls and snowflake blizzards. Picture yourself inside a giant snow globe or with Santa’s rooftop view. Open Wednesday through Sunday. Admission is $10 donation per 2 or $20 per family. Donations benefit Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando.

PLANT CITY – THE CHRISTMAS TRAIL
Through December 23.
Enjoy an outdoor walking trail filled with several different Christmas attractions, photo ops, a 25ft tall Christmas tree lights show, a Jack Frost Ice Show, and more. Tickets are $15 per vehicle (1-8 people); $25 passenger van (9-15 people); $50 bus (16+ people).

SEAWORLD ORLANDO – CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION
Through December 31.
Enjoy the Sea of Trees, show-stopping ice-skating extravaganza Winter Wonderland on Ice. Meet Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer or head to Wild Arctic® and visit with Santa himself. Included with admission. Read our preview for more details.

UNIVERSAL ORLANDO – HOLIDAYS AT UNIVERSAL ORLANDO
Through January 3, 2021.

WALL CRAWL, ORLANDO – SANTA DAYS
Through December 20.
On designated Santa days, you’ll enjoy a one-hour semi-private experience with Santa -including stories, songs and of course – photos. During the hour, you can take as many photos with your own cameras and phones as you would like. The venue’s pro photographers are an optional upgrade. There are also ten new holiday walls this year. Prices vary depending on time slot chosen.

WEKIVA ISLAND, LONGWOOD – WINTER WONDERLAND
Through January 1, 2021.
Wekiva Island will be transformed into a winter wonderland with daily snow flurries, visits from Santa & Mrs. Claus, holiday movies on the lawn, a Christmas Tree Forest and so much more. There is a $2 admission fee. Guests can also take a “sleigh” ride down the river for $20 for adults and $10 for children on Saturdays and Sundays. Read our preview for more details.

WINTER HAVEN – STARLIGHT NIGHTS DOWNTOWN
Through January 6, 2021.
For six weeks, Downtown Winter Haven will be dazzling with lights. Dine, shop, and enjoy a beautiful evening stroll with fun photo opportunities and surprises around every corner. Free to attend.

CITY OF APOPKA TREE LIGHTING at KIT LAND NELSON PARK, APOPKA
The annual tree lighting takes place after the weekly Apopka Farmer’s Market. Free to attend.

HOLIDAY MARKET at THE PLAZA LIVE!, ORLANDO
The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra’s first fundraising event of the season will feature Santa’s Bake Shop, an extensive Boutique of jewelry and musical notes gifts, as well as holiday décor, baskets, and host appreciation gifts for purchase. Free to attend.

WHAT’S UP DOWNTOWN FOR THE HOLIDAYS at WALT DISNEY AMPHITHEATER AT LAKE EOLA, ORLANDO
Pack up your lunch and join the Downtown Development Board for an 11:30am show featuring Mad Cow Theatre, The Russian Ballet Orlando, and Opera Orlando. Seats limited. Free to attend.

ORLANDO WINTERFEST & HOLIDAY MARKET at ORANGE COUNTY CONVENTION CENTER, ORLANDO

Enjoy the movies Frosty’s Winter Wonderland & Polar Express. Admission is FREE, however you must reserve a ticket for a socially distant pod space (up to 6 people per pod) via the link above.

VIRTUAL TREE LIGHTING at ST. CLOUD
The City of St. Cloud will hold its annual tree lighting ceremony online for free at its Facebook page, or on Spectrum channel 499, starting at 6:30pm.

DECEMBER 4-5

SNOWFEST 2020 at FRANCES LANGFORD PROMENADE AT LAKE MIRROR, LAKELAND
The event will feature a stroll through the snow along with other holiday delights in the area of the amphitheater on the east side of Lake Mirror. Along with the snow, there will be arts & craft vendors, a beautiful 30-foot-tall Christmas Tree, Santa and Mrs. Clause in a snow globe, Santa’s workshop with fun treats, a book giveaway sponsored by the Junior League of Greater Lakeland, entertainment, and tasty food trucks along with a number of vehicles on display from the presenting sponsor, Audi. Admission is one canned food item per person entering.

WINTER WONDERLAND OF LIGHTS at CENTRAL WINDS PARK, WINTER SPRINGS
Drive through Central Winds Park and view holiday lights for FREE by the City and local businesses and organizations.

ORLANDO BALLET PRESENTS THE NUTCRACKER at DR. PHILLIPS CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS
Orlando Ballet presents this beloved holiday tradition with socially-distant seating. Tickets start at $24.

DECEMBER 5

68TH ANNUAL YE OLDE HOMETOWN CHRISTMAS PARADE 2020 at DOWNTOWN WINTER PARK
The Winter Park Chamber of Commerce is proud to host the 68th annual Winter Park Ye Olde Hometown Christmas Parade from 9-10:30am. Free to attend. Also free to watch at the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce Facebook page.

AVALON AGLOW at AVALON PARK, ORLANDO
This free community event is open to the public and will begin at 3pm with east Orlando’s premier holiday parade and wrap up at 9pm with a fireworks show. The day will feature community performances, pictures with Santa, bounce park, real snow, vendors and train rides.

CITY OF ORLANDO TREE LIGHTING at LAKE EOLA PARK, ORLANDO
The evening’s events will include a Tree Lighting Celebration stage show narrated by WKMG News Channel 6’s morning team, live holiday music from the Orlando Concert Band, and more. Watch live at 8pm at clickorlando.com or at 11pm on WKMG News Channel 6.

A CLASSIC CHRISTMAS FEAT. BACH FESTIVAL SOCIETY at CENTRAL PARK, WINTER PARK
Enjoy this one-hour prerecorded performance by the 175-voice Bach Festival Choir and Orchestra led by Dr. John V. Sinclair. Admission is FREE, however you must reserve a ticket for a socially distant pod space (up to 6 people per pod) via the link above.

DRIVE-THRU SANTA & CHRISTMAS WONDERLAND at BLUE JACKET PARK, ORLANDO
Remain safely in your vehicle and “drive-thru” the Christmas Wonderland that includes decorations, carolers, Bernie (the mascot), and of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus. Cost is $10 per vehicle with $5 of each transaction a USF donation.

GLITTER, GLISTEN & SNOW – LAKE EVA PARK, HAINES CITY
They will have arts & crafts vendors, food vendors, entertainment from local schools and groups, a movie, and the lighting of a 31ft Christmas tree, all starting at 6pm.

SLEIGH WHAT?!?! A HOLIDAY FAMILY IMPROV SHOW at THE ORLANDO REP, ORLANDO
Enjoy a family-friendly safe holiday adventure complete with a hilarious one-of-a-kind story you help create and an opportunity to get a photo with Santa himself. Seating is done in a socially distant block of adjoining seats called a Seating Bay. Bay ticket prices range from $50 (2 individuals) to $150 (up to 6 individuals). Orlando Fringe presents a new holiday event based on the Charles Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol. The story will be told through stationary scenes that you will travel to in small groups throughout the park in a 60-minute immersive tour. Your group will be led by holiday carolers and Ebenezer Scrooge. Along the way, you will visit moments from the classic tale through the eyes of five local arts groups, retelling the story through multiple genres. Tickets are $25 for general and $40 for VIP (includes 2 drink tickets).

THE TWELF DAYS OF CHRISTMAS at ST. LUKE’S UMC, ORLANDO
The TwELF Days of Christmas is a contactless, socially distanced event, allowing visitors to stay in their vehicle as they drive alongside North Pole Elves on a journey to create the greatest gift for Orlando, featuring the perfect mix of traditional Christmas themes, extraordinary holiday lights, live music, and comedic vignettes brought to life by local actors. The event is free but tickets are required to control capacity.

DECEMBER 12

8TH ANNUAL VIOLECTRIC HOLIDAY SHOW at WALT DISNEY AMPHITHEATER AT LAKE EOLA, ORLANDO
Free and open to the public, the 90-minute live concert, presented by the City of Orlando Department of Families, Parks and Recreation, will feature traditional holiday songs like, “O Christmas Tree,” “The First Noel” and “Hanukkah, O Hanukkah” mashed up with classic rock tunes and modern hits like “Born to Run,” “Heroes” and “Sweet Dreams,” delivering a fun-filled, energetic and highly-unique holiday show unlike anything seen and heard before. Violectric has also teamed up again with Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando for the pet-friendly show. Attendees are encouraged to bring their pets, a pet supply or donate to Pet Alliance.

FRONTYARD FESTIVAL: BIG BAD VOODOO DADDY WILD & SWINGIN’ HOLIDAY PARTY at DR. PHILLIPS CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS, ORLANDO

ROLLINS CHRISTMAS VESPERS at CENTRAL PARK, WINTER PARK
A rich holiday tradition stretching back to 1933 is coming to Central Park this year. Enjoy an evening of carols and lessons performed by the Virginia S. & W. W. Nelson Department of Music’s choral and instrumental ensembles. An elegant candlelit procession is followed by student-performed Christmas carols as well as scripture readings that reflect on the Christmas season. ORLANDO GAY CHORUS PRESENTS ONE SLICE OF FRUITCAKE ONLINE CONCERT
Due to the pandemic the Orlando Gay Chorus is taking their holiday concert online. The show is free to watch online at the group’s Facebook page, but they ask for monetary donation to their Toys For Tots campaign.

DECEMBER 17-20

FRONTYARD FESTIVAL: MICHAEL JAMES SCOTT “A FIERCE CHRISTMAS” at DR. PHILLIPS CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS, ORLANDO
In a blow-the-roof-off-the-outdoor-theater musical event, Michael James Scott comes home to Orlando to close 2020 with his signature brand of laughter and light. Michael will share holiday favorites from his new album, A Fierce Christmas, along with tunes that capture his diverse musical sensibility spanning from “O-Town” to Broadway, gospel to jazz. RUSSIAN BALLET PRESENTS THE NUTCRACKER at WALT DISNEY AMPHITHEATER AT LAKE EOLA, ORLANDO
The Russian Academy of Ballet presents a gift to the Orlando Community with a free performance of the traditional “The Nutcracker” starting at 7:30pm.

DECEMBER 19-20

HOLIDAY FAMILY FUN at DAYTONA LAGOON, DAYTONA BEACH
Offering free arts and craft stations with safe social distancing, holiday music, letters to Santa, and free coloring and activity sheets from noon-3pm each day. Kids ages 12 and under who drop off their letter to Santa in Daytona Lagoon’s North Pole Mailbox will get a $5 Bonus Arcade Card. Guests can choose to stay and play all day with the purchase of an All-Day Play Pass for only $24.99. This pass includes unlimited access to Go-Karts, Laser Tag, Rockwall, Mini-Golf, Sky Maze, and Island Hopper.

HOLIDAYS IN SPACE at KENNEDY SPACE CENTER VISITORS COMPLEX, MERRITT ISLAND
From 1 PM to 4 PM each afternoon, enjoy snowfall and a DJ dance party in NASA Central. Throughout the park, see festive decorations, trivia and holiday videos. Don’t forget to take a holiday selfie with the giant NASA logo ornament at the entrance to Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. Closed Dec 24-25. Included with admission.

FRONTYARD FESTIVAL: THE CHRISTMAS TENORS at DR. PHILLIPS CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS, ORLANDO
Celebrate the grandeur of the Holiday Season with The Christmas Tenors as they unite their vocal majesty and usher in an unforgettable musical experience in collaboration with The Villages Philharmonic Orchestra under the guidance of Maestro Pasquale Valerio. Seating is outdoors in boxes. Tickets are priced per minimum seating in the box.

DECEMBER 23

FRONTYARD FESTIVAL: EL GRAN COMBO DE PUERTO RICO MEGA LATIN CHRISTMAS at DR. PHILLIPS CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS, ORLANDO
Mega Latin Christmas with El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico is the biggest Central Florida Latin Christmas celebration in 2020. Seating is outdoors in boxes. Tickets are priced per minimum seating in the box.

DECEMBER 26

HOLIDAY MOVIE AT LAKE EOLA: “LOVE, ACTUALLY” at LAKE EOLA PARK, ORLANDO
Pack your blankets, chairs, and snacks for the whole family to enjoy a free movie on the East Lawn starting at 7pm.
