Yesterday, Walt Disney World announced it would begin a phased reopening date of May 20, 2020, for Disney Springs.

Following the guidance of government and health officials, a limited number of shopping and dining experiences that are owned by third-party operating participants will begin to open during this initial phase.

No word on which businesses will be first to open, yet.

Disney Springs will begin to reopen in a way that incorporates enhanced safety measures, including increased cleaning procedures, the use of appropriate face coverings by both cast members and guests, limited-contact guest services and additional safety training for cast members.

During the initial opening phase, Disney Springs will have limitations on capacity, parking and operating hours. Additional protocols may be put into effect prior to the opening date.

Of all the parts of Walt Disney World to reopen first, it makes sense that Disney Springs was chosen. It’s small enough to effectively control crowds, and it doesn’t require an influx of tourists to make it worth opening.

Plus by allowing the third-party vendors (those owned by companies other than Disney) to open first, WDW doesn’t have to recall more castmembers at this time.

Other areas of Walt Disney World Resort will remain closed until further notice, including theme parks and Disney Resort hotels.
