Tuck Everlasting: The Musical at The Orlando Rep

I hadn’t planned to write a review of “Tuck Everlasting: The Musical,” being presented by The Orlando REP, but after chaperoning a field trip to see the show, I was moved to do so.

Based on the best-selling novel by Natalie Babbitt and adapted for the stage by Claudia Shear and Tim Federle,“Tuck Everlasting: The Musical” tells the story of young Winnie Foster, who yearns for a life of adventure, but not until she becomes unexpectedly entwined with the Tuck Family does she get more than she could have imagined.

As her adventure unfolds, Winnie faces an extraordinary choice: return to her life, or continue with the Tucks on their infinite journey.

This is the first show I’ve seen at The Orlando REP, and I was impressed. I was surprised by the costume design, set design, and functionality of the stage set-up.

It’s a small cast that was perfectly cast. Such amazing talent on stage! Live theater is about connections, and this performance touched many in the audience, including my daughter, who talked about it for hours after.

The performance I saw was an abbreviated version of the show, as it was a field trip with high school theater classes, but I highly recommend checking it out, if you can. I definitely look forward to seeing other shows at The Orlando REP, too.
