This week marks the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing Mission, and Central Florida is celebrating all week long!

If you want to take part in the fun, here is a list of events scheduled for the 50th anniversary remembrance:

TUESDAY, JULY 16

Apollo 11 Launch Flashback Event Presented by CBS at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex
Cost: $175
On July 16, 1969 at 9:32am, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins launched aboard a Saturn V rocket toward the Moon. On July 16, 2019, exactly 50 yeas later, the Apollo 11 Launch Flashback Event Presented by CBS will take you through the launch sequence in real time through archival CBS television footage. This is a separately ticketed event.

Global Launch Event at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex
Cost: Included with admission
Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is joining the U.S. Space and Rocket Center and other NASA centers for Global Launch Day on July 16, 2019, the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11’s launch. The visitor complex is helping launch a record number of air rockets and guests are invited to help. Between 10:00am and 4pm, visit the Junior Astronaut Activity Tent in the Rocket Garden for stomp rocket launches and to build your own straw rocket. Be sure to use the hashtag #GlobalRocketLaunch to join in on the conversation and see other paper rocket launches from around the world.

World Record Rocket Launch Day at Orlando Science Center, Orlando

If you can’t make it to the rocket launch event at the Kennedy Space Center, the Orlando Science Center will be participating by launching paper rockets in Loch Haven Park next door from 10am-1pm.

Duran Duran at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex
Cost: $99 general admission; $300 Celebration Concert Elite Package
Join Duran Duran in the Rocket Garden at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex for a concert celebrating the historic Apollo 11 launch. Doors open at 8pm, followed by a set from DJ Evalicious. Duran Duran will begin a 90-minute set at 10:30pm. For this special tribute, their set will include a drone performance by Studio Drift. The general admission ticket price does not include parking or daily admission, so no early entrance will be permitted. The Elite Package includes daily admission, an Apollo 50th commemorative gift, and more, but parking is still extra. This is a separately ticketed event.

FRIDAY, JULY 19

USPS “1969: First Moon Landing Forever Stamps” Event at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex

Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex welcomes the United States Postal Service (USPS) as they issue the 1969: First Moon Landing Forever Stamps at 11am. This is the first issue of the stamps commemorating the 50th anniversary of the first Moon landing during Apollo 11. The event will take place at the Apollo/Saturn V Center July 19, 2019 at 11am, and guests can purchase the stamps the day of the event.

NASA’s Giant Leaps: Past and Future at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex

NASA is preparing a two-hour live program to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Apollo 11, focusing on the agency’s past and the missions to return to the Moon. The program, entitled “NASA’s Giant Leaps: Past and Future” will broadcast live from various locations around the United States, including Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex’s Apollo/Saturn V Center at 1pm.

One Giant Leap Celebration | Apollo 11 Moon Landing 50 Years Later at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex

Exactly 50 years ago on July 20, the world heard these famous words as Neil Armstrong lowered onto the surface of the Moon: “That’s one small step for (a) man, one giant leap for mankind.” Join Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in honoring this unprecedented moment not only experienced by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, but the entire world.

One Giant Leap: 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing at Orange County Library – Downtown Orlando Branch
Cost: FREE
Presented in partnership with WUCF TV and the Orange County Regional History Center, experience the Moon Landing via virtual reality experiences, expert speakers, and hands-on family activities.

Enjoy fun family activities, presented in partnership with WUCF TV and the Orange County Library System. Enjoy an Astronaut Training Obstacle Course, Moon Crater Mini Golf, and more.

Apollo 11 50th Anniversary at MOAS, Daytona Beach
Cost: $12.95 for adults, $10.95 for seniors and students, and $6.95 for youth (ages 6-17). Free for MOAS members.
In conjunction with their temporary exhibit, To Choose Our Destiny: The Lasting Legacy of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing, they have a day packed with guest speakers, special Planetarium shows and movies, hands-on lunar activities for all ages, and ongoing tours through the exhibit.

Jim Meyer, an engineer who supported 165 NASA Missions over 37 years, including all the launches from Apollo 7 through the Mars Rovers, will share insights from his experiences.

Film Screening and Talk: Apollo 11 at Emil Buehler Planetarium at Seminole State College, Sanford

Watch the critically-acclaimed CNN documentary on the planetarium dome as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. Never-before-seen footage and audio recordings take you straight into the heart of NASA’s most celebrated mission as astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin embark on a historic trip to the moon.

Meet Apollo Space Workers Who Did It! at American Space Museum & Space Walk of Fame, Titusville

American Space Museum will have several 1960s-era Apollo space workers on hand to tell their stories, as well as docents in the museum and at the Space Walk of Fame monuments to highlight the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing.

Moon Fest – 50th Anniversary Celebration! at Orlando Science Center, Orlando
Cost: $21 for adults, $19 for seniors and students, and $15 for youth (ages 3-11). Free for OSC members.
Moon Fest commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing, one of humankind’s most significant achievements. It’s two days of out-of-this-world programming, experiments, films and more.

A Welcome Home Celebration | Apollo 11 Splashdown 50 Years Later at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex
Cost: Included with admission
As the final anniversary event in the timeline of the mission, Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex will host a welcome home celebration, signifying the safe return of the astronauts back on Earth. The event begins at 10am in the Rocket Garden and will include on-going family-friendly activities, life-sized cut out photo opportunities and classic cars from the 1960s.
