Welcome to 2019 my fellow Central Florida Foodies! If you’re not still in a food coma from the holidays, there are many delicious food-centric events happening for Central Florida foodies.

SeaWorld Orlando – Three Kings Festival

Food connoisseurs can enjoy Latin-inspired dishes and drinks prepared exclusively for SeaWorld’s Three Kings Celebration. JANUARY 6

DaJen Eats Cafe, Eatonville – Dinner & A Story Bookclub: BECOMING by Michelle Obama
Cost: $15
Chef Jenn will lead a lively talk delving into January’s read: BECOMING by Michelle Obama. Dinner will include a plant-powered take (with a Jamaican flair, of course) on Michelle Obama’s favorite Turkey Chili: Chef Jenn’s Jerk Sweet Potato Chili served in freshly-baked bread bowls, plus her Mango Sesame Spinach Salad.

JANUARY 8

Paddlefish, Orlando – Rooftop Wine Experience
Cost: $40
This monthly wine experience and discussion is lead by the Sommelier team featuring wine flights from around the globe and light bites from the kitchen. This month’s theme is “Whites of the West.”

Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, Orlando – Food for Thought Tour
During this free one-hour information session you will learn more about who is hungry in our community and then take a walking tour of the food bank to see how they operate. Lunch is also provided.

The Historic Sanford Welcome Center, Sanford – Alive After 5: Souper Sanford Soup Challenge
Cost: $10
Local restaurants will compete for bragging rights for the best soup of the year. Plus there will be the normal Alive After 5 activities including live entertainment.

Bok Tower Gardens, Lake Wales – Veggie Fest “Roll Your Own Vegan Sushi”
Cost: $40 for members/$47 for non-members
Learn the art of rolling your own delicious and vegan sushi with Chef Naomi Green. Class includes hands-on instruction, sampling and discussion on how to incorporate more veggies into your favorite sushi recipes, dips, sauces and condiments. Ticket price includes general admission to the Gardens.

Beach Street, Daytona Beach – 2019 Daytona Beach Chili Tour

The Daytona Beach Chili Tour features multiple styles of Chili from local chefs, eateries, and stores all competing for the best on the street award.

Bok Tower Gardens, Lake Wales – Veggie Fest “The Perfect Snack: Making Plant-Based Energy Bites”

Learn about different whole grains, fruits, nuts and seeds that combine to create Plant-Based Energy Bites. Ticket price includes general admission to the Gardens.

Bok Tower Gardens, Lake Wales – Veggie Fest “Totally Slurpable Pad Thai Zoodles”
Cost: $10 for members/$17 for non-members
Here’s a great way to learn how to create a bowl of them using seasonal vegetables and other whole foods paired with a Ginger Goddess Dressing to make it a meal that supports weight loss and vibrant health. Sample and recipe included. Ticket price includes general admission to the Gardens.

Enjoy the best Bluegrass Florida has to offer, competition style BBQ from your favorite BBQ teams, & a beer garden.

Seminole Harley-Davidson, Sanford – 11th Annual Crimeline Chili Cook-Off
Cost: Free admission; Food for purchase
Sample Chili $5 per person. Tasting and Celebrity Judging begins at 11 am.

Ten 10 Brewing Company, Orlando – 2019 Ten10 Amateur Rib Contest
Cost: Free admission; Food for purchase
Competition is from 11am-4pm and there will be a charity raffle at 2pm benefiting Second Harvest.

Bok Tower Gardens, Lake Wales – Veggie Fest “Instant Pot Training: Making Red Lentil Soup & More”
Cost: $20 for members/$27 for non-members
A hands-on introduction to whole food plant-based no oil cooking in an Instant Pot. Ticket price includes general admission to the Gardens.

Orlando Brewing, Orlando – Vegan Brews & BBQ

Southern Fried Vegan is bringing their popular Fried Chickun, BBQ, Mac N Cheeze, Jambalaya, Cajun Corn, Greens, and more to Orlando Brewing for a pop-up.

Sausage Shack, Winter Park – Beer & Sausage Charity Dinner
Cost: $25 adv/$35 day of
The dinner will begin with a spring salad tossed in a balsamic vinaigrette followed by a sampling of 3 different gourmet sausages nestled inside of a Giant Bavarian Pretzel that will be paired with a Tank Brewery craft beer. The dinner will be concluded with sorbet from Yogurtland Winter Park. Proceeds from the dinner go to The Leukemia Lymphoma Society.

Big River Grille & Brewing Works, Disney’s Boardwalk Resort – Professor Strangeberry Tapping Party
Cost: Free admission; $3 a pint
From 5-7pm, come try this new sour brew featuring blueberries and black currant. Each pint will include a free food pairing.

Boca Winter Park – Wine, Cheese, and Chocolate

Big Fin Seafood Kitchen, Dr Phillips – Scott Joseph’s Supper Club
Cost: $95
An evening of great food with a story and paired with wines aged in whisky or tequila barrels, hosted by food critic Scott Joseph.

Frances Langford Promenade, Lakeland – Pints for Paws Lakeland Beer Fest
Cost: $45 adv/$60 day of
Attendees will enjoy sampling from over 100 different brands of beer, along with a free souvenir pilsner sample glass, live music, food trucks, interactive beer stations, entertainment and more. Leashed pets are welcome and Pints for Paws benefits the The Humane Society of Polk County – Polk’s No Kill Shelter.

Harry P. Leu Gardens, Orlando – Homemade Jelly Making
Cost: $35 member/$40 non-member
This is a “hands on” class, for those who wish to participate. Students will take home several samples along with make-at-home step by step recipes and directions. There is a $10 supply fee paid directly to the instructor.

Sausage Shack, Winter Park – Paella Dinner Night with Jose Baranenko
Cost: $20
Guests will get a salad, plate of Chef Jose Baranenko’s infamous paella dish, dessert and your first glass of Sangria.

Downtown DeLand – 2019 Taste of DeLand

Sample the offerings of area restaurants & caterers from 1pm-4pm on West Indiana Avenue in Downtown DeLand. Funds raised benefit the MainStreet DeLand Association. Tickets get you a taste at each booth. Beer & Wine will be available for additional purchase.

Learn to cook healthy foods (with a vegan touch) in this Chef Demo Cooking Class with award winning Chef Susan Ytterberg.

Enzo’s Hideaway, Disney Springs – Smuggler Series: Bourbon County Stout

Goose Island Brewery Educator and industry expert, Mike Smith, will formally instruct attendees about the brewery’s renowned beer barrel aging program. Enzo’s Hideaway Executive Chef John Miele has paired the brews with Italian specialties.

Gator Harley-Davidson, Leesburg – 6th Annual Chili Cookoff & BBQ Competition

Enjoy samples of chili and BBQ, plus live music and more. This is a charity benefit for the Lake County Firefighter’s Charity

Vinoy Park, St. Petersburg – St Pete Beer & Bacon Festival

Waldorf Astoria Orlando – Bull & Bear Masters Wine Dinner feat. Adobe Road Winery

Enjoy a four-course menu inspired by Chef Amy Freeze’s television and media appearances. Start with a specially paired cocktail, followed by dishes that she created for the Food Network and a dessert from the televised event at the World Food Championships. Craft beer and wine included. Harry P. Leu Gardens, Orlando – Breakfast with Veggies: Simple and Delicious Breakfast Recipes from the Garden

If you’re trying to pack more vegetables into your daily eating routine, then you certainly shouldn’t overlook this fun filled class presented by the Garden’s Director, Robert Bowden. Coffee, and fresh juices will also be provided.
