Orlando Dining News Round-Up July 1, 2016: Frontera Cocina, Morimoto Asia, Brass Tap

Frontera Cocina - Rick Bayless

Frontera Cocina is now open in Disney Spring’s Town Center at Walt Disney World. This is a new contemporary Mexican dining experience developed by renowned chef and six-time James Beard Foundation Award winner Rick Bayless.

The table-service restaurant offers menu items such as Oaxacan Red Chile Chicken, Salsa Verde Shrimp Enchiladas Suizas, and freshly made salsas and guacamole.

Frontera Cocina also includes a quick-service window outside the restaurant, offering on-the-go Guests tacos, chips and guacamole, and a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Frontera Cocina is open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and reservations can be made online at fronteracocina.com.

Also at Disney Springs, Morimoto Asia is revamping the menu at its Forbidden Lounge upstairs with new late night eats and drinks. I haven’t had the chance to see it yet, so if you have, let us know what you thought.

Brass Tap, a Florida-based craft beer chain, will open this fall at Waterford Lakes Town Center. The upscale pub serves up specialty beer, spirits, good food and live music.

It will open between LA Fitness and Regal Cinemas, and feature 60 different craft beers on tap plus more than 100 varieties of imported beer bottles, beer flights and growlers, along with unique cocktails and a large selection of premium wines and cigars. Food menu items will include spring rolls, hamburgers, flat breads, salads, tacos, pretzels and more.

Del Frisco’s Double Eagle on I-Drive is hosting a Whiskey Dinner on August 2, 2016. Hosted by Master Sommelier Andrew McNamara and Master Mixologist Nick Nistico, the meal will feature four courses paired with whiskeys, plus passed hors d’oeuvres and petit fours for dessert. Cost is $135 per person (+ tax/gratuity), and reservations can be made by calling 407-351-5074.

Valhalla Bakery plans to open Valkyrie Doughnuts over by UCF sometime this summer. It will still serve a range of baked goods at its signature store at Market on South.

The Elephant Bar near the Mall at Millenia has closed. I’m personally surprised it’s lasted this long, as I never had a good dining experience there.
