The Festival of Lights at Cypress Grove Canceled Due to Excessive Traffic

After only two nights, the annual Festival of Lights at Cypress Grove has been canceled by the Orange County Parks and Recreation Department because it was too popular.

Festival of Lights at Cypress Grove

Located on Holden Avenue between Orange Avenue and Orange Blossom Trail near Edgewood, the lights have seen around a 400% increase in traffic. Normally it draws 200 to 300 cars on a weeknight, but they saw almost 850 cars on Monday, and over 1,200 on Tuesday.

That increase jammed the roadways into the park, and caused traffic to back up for hours. After numerous complaints, Orange County Parks and Recreation opted to cancel the remaining nights. It was scheduled to run through Friday, December 4.

Orange County Parks and Recreation suggests checking out other upcoming holiday lights events around Orlando, such as Moss Park’s Light Up the Wild from Dec 13 to 19. We have a listing of many other area holiday light shows in our Orlando events calendar.
