Disaster! Attraction to Close at Universal Orlando September 8

The long-running Disaster! attraction at Universal Studios Florida will take it’s last catastrophic run on September 8, 2015.

The announcement was made today as a footnote of the announcement of the new Fast & Furious: Supercharged attraction that will open at the theme park in 2017.

Disaster! was originally opened as Earthquake: The Big One on the park’s opening day of June 7, 1990. Its main inspiration came from the 1974 disaster film Earthquake. But as younger crowds eventually had no clue what the Earthquake film was, the attraction was closed in November 2007 for refurbishment.

After adding a new pre-show experience and ride elements, the attraction’s grand opening as Disaster: A Major Motion Picture Starring You! took place in January 2008.

With today’s audience wanting bigger and bolder with their theme park thrills, it was probably only a matter of time before the ride closed.

If you want to take one last “Disaster”-ous ride, you only have a few weeks to do so before it’s gone for good.
