The Ting Tings Come to Orlando for a Show at The Social on April 14, 2015

UK pop duo The Ting Tings are bringing their tour to Orlando with a stop at The Social on April 14.

The Ting Tings

The Ting Tings first rose to prominence with their hits “That’s Not My Name” and “Shut Up and Let Me Go” in the late 2000’s. Comprised of Katie Walsh and Jules De Martino, the duo played many festivals and award shows on both sides of the Atlantic. They were even nominated for a Best New Artist Grammy in 2010.

In 2012, the two were feeling uninspired, so they took a trip to Ibiza which unleashed their party spirit. This resulted in a new album of songs called Super Critical, which is full of hook-stuffed modern disco club tunes.

I love this album.

The first single, “Wrong Club,” has the boogie bassline of a 1977-era club tune, mixed with a pop melody that will have you singing the oh-ohs right along with Walsh. The title track, “Super Critical,” has a sparse disco drum hook that will get you dancing. My favorite track, however, is “Green Poison,” which has such a funky groove to it. Reminds me of Price circa his 1999 album mixed with a hint of P-Funk.

But rather than have me describe the new album, you can hear it live when The Ting Tings take the stage at the Social.

Tickets for the show are only $20 in advance at thesocial.org, and $25 at the door. Opening is electronic-soul duo KANEHOLLER.
