Out and About: Sea Lion High Debuts at SeaWorld Orlando

Last week I had the chance to check out the new Clyde and Seamore’s Sea Lion High show at SeaWorld Orlando for The Disney Blog, but I wanted to share my opinion of the show with CitySurfing Orlando readers, too.

This show features the sea lions Clyde and Seamore, who are getting ready to graduate Sea Lion High, with scholarships to go to Ocean University. On the last day of school, they find out they have to retake some classes if they want to graduate.

Among the classes they have to retake are drama, gym, science, and dance. Clyde and Seamore take turns onstage, so there is always something happening while allowing the animals to take breaks during the 30 minute show.

The show ends with a huge crisis that requires Clyde and Seamore to use what they’ve learned to save the day, with help from their human friends.

The show is funny and light-hearted, with the animals demonstrating different tricks and learned behaviors. They receive positive reinforcements throughout the show. There’s even a pre-show segment explaining how the trainers develop a bond with the animal before they even try to teach them behaviors.

There is also conservation points made during the show, but they’re subtle, like information on the stage’s screen, or a skit featuring a human throwing a soda can into the water, only to have an otter come out, grab it, and throw it in a recycle bin.

Clyde and Seamore’s Sea Lion High is performed several times a day, and is included with regular admission to SeaWorld Orlando.
