Comcast Confirms King Kong to Return to Universal Orlando

It’s been rumored for several months, but it was confirmed Tuesday that a new King Kong attraction will be opening at Universal Orlando in the near future.

Kongfrontation at Universal Studios Orlando

In a call to discuss fourth-quarter earnings, Comcast, which owns Universal Orlando, said, “we continue to invest in attractions including Harry Potter and the Fast and Furious attractions in Hollywood and a King Kong attraction in Orlando….”

It was just a brief mention, with no further details, but it confirmed all of those rumors of the big ape’s return. Kongfrontation was the original ride that entertained guests for twelve years until it closed in 2002 to make way for the Revenge of the Mummy attraction.

Many are speculating the new Kong attraction will go into the area currently under construction at Islands of Adventure, between Toon Lagoon and the Jurassic Park River Adventure.

It makes sense for King Kong to return to the park, since last year sister company Universal Studios signed a deal with Legendary Pictures, which plans to release a movie based on King Kong’s home, Skull Island, in 2017.
