Orlando Shakespeare Theater in Partnership with UCF presents the Dickens' classic, A Christmas Carol

Orlando Shakespeare Theater in Partnership with UCF presents the Dickens’ classic, A Christmas Carol, from December 3-28, 2014.

Artistic Director Jim Helsinger has adapted this Christmas classic for Orlando audiences. “This new adaptation begins with a family sharing the story of A Christmas Carol with their youngest child for the first time,” said Helsinger. “Soon both the family and audience are swept into the beloved tale, complete with carolers, holiday dinners, foggy London streets, haunting graveyards, and the infectious spirit of Christmas.”

A Christmas Carol features local actors Steven Lane as Brother/Bob Cratchit (Nicholas Nickleby and Into the Woods), Anne Hering as Mother/Mrs. Cratchit (The Trial of Ebenezer Scrooge), Sarah Caroline Billings as Middle Daughter/Ghost of Christmas Past, and Danielle Reneè as Daughter/Belle (Les Misérables), Chris Crawford as Son/Fred (Palm Beach Dramawork’s The Lion in Winter and American Stage’s The Foreigner), Parker Sims Chin as Youngest Son/Tiny Tim (Mad Cow Theatre’s The Who’s Tommy), and Carly Swain as Youngest Daughter/Fan (Orlando REP’s Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer).

Returning to Orlando, actors Steven Patterson (Kiss Me, Kate and Shylock) and Paul Bernardo (2014’s Julius Caesar) will take on the roles of Grandfather/Scrooge and Father/Jacob Marley, respectively.

The production will be directed by Michael Carleton (Dracula: The Journal of Jonathan Harker and The Tempest), with musical direction from Steve MacKinnon (A Night in New Orleans: A Magic Tree House Adventure and The True Story of the Three Little Pigs). The Orlando Shakes artistic team includes Set Designer Bert Scott, Lighting Designer Eric T. Haugen, Costume Designer Mel Barger, and Sound Designer Britt Sandusky, with puppets by Vandy Wood.

Tickets are $20, $35, and $45, with shows Wednesday through Saturday at 7:30pm, and Sunday at 2pm. There are senior matinees December 10, 19, and 23 at 2pm, with tickets $10, $17, and $22. If you’re under 30, you can get in for $20 on December 12 at 7:30pm.

Other special nights are the previews on December 3 and 4, and the Opening Night Party on December 5, which begins at 6:15pm prior to the show, and is free for all ticket holders that evening.
