Orlando Philharmonic to Buy Plaza Live Theatre

[ed note: This article was supposed to post two weeks ago, but somehow I had programmed the wrong date in for future posting. My apologies to the Orlando Philharmonic for the delay.]

Orlando Philharmonic logoThe Orlando Philharmonic has announced that they will be buying the Plaza Live Theatre and making it their home base. Up to now, they have rented space from the Orlando Shakespeare Theater.

The Philharmonic is planning extensive renovations to the historic building to create office space, a rehearsal hall and a music library, and to update the existing 1000-seat music hall to accommodate chamber music concerts, while maintaining the schedule of rock, jazz, comedy and contemporary music events that the venue currently offers.

Starting in Fall 2014, the orchestra will present their first concerts – its four-concert “Focus” chamber orchestra series and its five-concert “Sounds of Summer” chamber music series – at The Plaza Live.

The orchestra will continue performing its large-scale classical, pops and opera events at Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre in downtown Orlando, and eventually at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, when that opens.

The Plaza Live is located at 425 N. Bumby Avenue, near downtown Orlando
