Raglan Road Celebrates 5th Anniversary at Walt Disney World

Looking for something fun to do tomorrow night (October 20)? Then head on out to Raglan Road at Downtown Disney.

The Irish gastropub will be celebrating its 5th anniversary with a party.  During the evening, prizes will be given away, including the grand prize of a trip for two to Ireland.

Raglan Road also says there will be discounts and live entertainment from house band Creel and Irish Dancers.

It was October 20, 2005, when Raglan Road held its grand opening party. Irish restauranteurs  Paul Nolan and John Cooke brought their pub and restaurant concept to Downtown Disney, literally. Pieces of the bar were actually shipped over from Ireland and built on the site of the former Pleasure Island Jazz Club.

The “real” Raglan Road is located on the south side of Dublin. It was made famous by renowned Irish poet Patrick Kavanagh in a love poem entitled, “The Dawning of the Day.”  In the 1960s, Irish folk singer Luke Kelly first put the poem to music. “Raglan Road” has become a seminal Irish song and has since been covered by such artists as U2, Sinead O’Connor and Van Morrison. As a tribute to Patrick Kavanagh, a specially commissioned bronze sculpture of the poet sits outside Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant at Downtown Disney.

So if you want to be a part of the 5th anniversary, head on over to Pleasure Island, grab a pint of Guiness (an Irish pour, please) and enjoy the festivities.
