The Garden Theatre kicks off its 10th Anniversary 2017-2018 Season with the classic rock opera, Jesus Christ Superstar, showing September 8 – October 1, 2017.
The musical follows Jesus Christ during his last seven days on Earth, and is told from the perspective of Judas Iscariot. With material borrowed from the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, this musical follows the meteoric rise of Jesus’ popularity, the devotion and doubts of his disciples, and the radical response by the church priests.
Sad news for those excited about the Jesus Christ Superstar arena tour we announced a few weeks ago. Word comes the entire tour has been cancelled, including the Orlando date June 14 at the Amway Center.
The official press release from the company states:
“Options Clause Entertainment LLC, an affiliate of S2BN Entertainment, announced today the cancellation of the Jesus Christ Superstar Arena Spectacular Tour. The tour was scheduled to kick off in New Orleans on June 9. All purchased tickets will be refunded. Tickets purchased online and via telephone will be automatically refunded. Tickets purchased from outlets/venue box office must be returned to that location for refund.”
No reason has been given for the cancellation of the tour, which was to start in less than two weeks, but judging by the reactions from several cast members, there was no warning this was going to happen.
The classic rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar has been reimagined as an arena rock spectacular starring an extraordinary cast of rock, pop and R&B superstars, and it will arrive in Orlando to play the Amway Center on June 14.
Jesus Christ Superstar was the first musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice to be produced for the professional stage, and it debuted in 1971. Forty years later, this new version of the musical is set to continue the hit legacy.
