Out and About: Cirque du Soleil’s Varekai Entertains All at the Amway Center

Cirque du Soleil Varekai at the Amway Center

Cirque du Soleil shows never fail to entertain, and Varekai, which plays the Amway Center this week, is very entertaining indeed.

Last night was the first night of the show in Orlando, which runs through this Sunday, September 21, and there was a good crowd for a midweek night.

Pre-show entertainment came courtesy of two clowns, Joanna and Steven, who acted as ushers checking out the guests near the stage.

The show itself started with a meeting with a character called The Skywatcher, who is a scientist and inventor. Then many of the characters joined him on the stage, as it was transformed into a magical forest.

This leads into the ending of the classic fable Flight of Icarus, where Icarus falls from the sky as he attempts to fly. He then is lifted up in a net which he uses to perform aerial acrobatics.

Shortly after he meets The Betrothed, and finds himself bewitched by her. The show then segues into the Icarian Games, where the human body becomes a juggling tool in a highly choreographed presentation of strength, balance and agility.

Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba Celebrates 15th Anniversary with Special Appearance by Mickey and Minnie

La Nouba Mickey Mouse Minnie Mouse

Cirque du Soleil’s 15th anniversary performance of La Nouba included a “magical moment” with Mickey and Minnie Mouse on December 18.

La Nouba opened to the public on December 23, 1998, and was created exclusively for Walt Disney World. Cirque du Soleil and Walt Disney Imagineering worked together to design the stage and the theater.

It has an international cast, and more than 20 percent of the original cast is still performing with the show.

La Nouba has performed more than 7,000 shows in its 15 years, and hopefully will for another 15. It is one of my favorite Cirque du Soleil shows.

If you want to see it, there are seats as low as $69 for select shows through the end of this month.

Celebrate the 15th Anniversary of Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba on December 18, 2013

Cirque du Soleil's La NoubaHard to believe Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba has been at Walt Disney World for fifteen years, but they have, and are celebrating that fact with special shows on December 18, 2014.

In addition to the amazing performances that normally grace La Nouba, special friends from Walt Disney World will make an appearance.

Tickets start as low as $69, with tickets via the Cirque du Soleil website. Showtimes are at 6pm and 9pm.

Congratulations to La Nouba on fifteen wonderful years of shows!

Cirque du Soleil Brings Quidam to Orlando May 15-19, 2013

quidamThough Orlando does have a permanent Cirque du Soleil show, La Nouba, the company occasionally brings one of their touring shows to town.

According to the Cirque website, Quidam will be in Orlando May 15-19, 2013.

The story of Quidam is told via Young Zoé, who is bored; her parents, distant and apathetic, ignore her. Her life has lost all meaning. Seeking to fill the void of her existence, she slides into an imaginary world – the world of Quidam – where she meets characters who encourage her to free her soul.

Tickets run from $35 to $100, depending on the show, and can be purchased online or at the UCF Arena box office.
