Dragon Challenge coaster at The WIzarding World of Harry Potter - Hogsmeade at Universal Orlando.

Universal Orlando has announced the thrill ride Dragon Challenge at Universal’s Islands of Adventure will be closing in September 2017 to make way for a new Harry Potter-themed attraction.

The coaster was originally known as Dueling Dragons, and was one of the main attractions when Islands of Adventure opened in May 1999.

It’s time for families to start thinking about heading back to school, so Krispy Kreme and The Salvation Army have teamed up for their annual “Stuff the Bus” School Supply Drive.

From now until August 6, participating Central Florida Krispy Kreme locations will be accepting donations of new school supplies, including notebooks, binders, pens, pencils, scissors, crayons, markers, glue, rulers, and hand sanitizer.

Today, Universal Orlando announced a “new generation of a thrill ride” will be coming to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at the theme park.

Located in the Hogsmeade section of Universal’s Islands of Adventure, the new thrill ride will take you deeper into J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, where you will encounter some of your favorite characters and creatures.

The Ravenous Pig in Winter Park is launching a special summer 3 course prix fixe lunch menu starting July 25, 2017. Cost is $22, with the option to add select wine pairings for $22 a bottle. This menu will rotate with seasonal lunch items and includes dessert.

The restaurant will also be hosting a “Neighborhood Pig Roast” on Saturday, August 5th. The menu will consist of pulled pork, ribs, black eyed peas, collards, cornbread and a seasonal dessert for $17 a plate.

Neighboring Cask & Larder Brewery‘s Summer beer release will take place the same weekend. “Lardermelon” and all C&L draughts will be $5 a pint.

New Entertainment Theater to Debut at Magic Kingdom

To expand the entertainment offerings at Magic Kingdom, it was announced last weekend at D23 Expo that a new theater will be built at the park.

Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek said the new entertainment venue will be inspired by the iconic Willis Theater as it looked in 1920s Kansas City, when Walt lived there.

Model of Star Wars Themed Land at Walt Disney World Revealed at D23

Earlier this week, we showed you the model for the upcoming Star Wars Land coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and now we have the official name.

It will be called Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, according to Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, who revealed the name at this weekend’s D23 Expo. The Disneyland version will go by the same name.

A short time in the future, in a galaxy quite close to home, there will soon be a Star Wars resort at Walt Disney World, it was announced last weekend at D23 Expo.

Details are light, but Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, confirmed that the Star Wars-inspired resort will debut as part of the new Disney 360 vacation concept. He said this revolutionary new vacation experience will be a living adventure that allows guests to immerse themselves in an entirely new form of Disney storytelling.

Two new attractions were announced for Epcot at this weekend’s D23 Expo, and one of them will be inspired by Disney*Pixar’s Ratatouille film.

Located in the France Pavilion of the World Showcase, it will be similar to the 4-D attraction Ratatouille: The Adventure that opened at Disneyland Paris in 2014.

For the fourth consecutive year, Shepherd’s Hope, in partnership with Nemours Children’s Health System, is offering free back-to-school physicals and other medical services for local uninsured and underinsured families at three locations between July 31 and August 10.

The free back-to-school physicals will include general health assessments and sports physicals (minus immunizations) as well as vision and hearing screenings at select locations with a Nemours specialist.

A new transportation system at Walt Disney World called the Disney Skyliner was officially announced at last weekend’s D23 Expo.

The gondola-style system will connect Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the International Gateway at Epcot via stops at Disney’s Art of Animation, Pop Century and Caribbean Beach resorts, plus other locations yet to be announced.

Universe of Energy to Close at Epcot August 2017

It was announced this weekend at D23 Expo the Universe of Energy attraction at Epcot will be closing in August 2017.

The Universe of Energy is one of the park’s original rides, opening on Epcot’s opening date of October 1, 1982. It featured numerous films that presented information on the subject of energy, as well as a ride through a primeval diorama complete with audio-animatronic dinosaurs.
