Hip Hop Artist Tony Brikk Releases New Single to Benefit Local Orlando Food Banks

Local hip hop recording artist Tony Brikk is aiming to raise $25,000 during the month of November for local Orlando food banks with the release of his new single, “Body Clash.”

Tony BrikkThe fight against hunger is a cause that runs deep in Tony’s heart. Earlier this year, he was homeless and living in an abandoned house for over six months, so he’s all too familiar with what it is like to go without a meal for a day.

So for the month of November 2013, he will donate sales of the single (via iTunes and Amazon MP3) to help fund local food banks via his Dance Against Hunger campaign.

Rock for Hunger Fest 6 with Victor Wooten on October 6, 2012

Want to enjoy some great music for a good cause? Then check out the annual Rock for Hunger show on October 6, 2012.

Originally started as a community project by a group of UCF students, the event has grown into nonprofit organization that helps the homeless and at-risk youth of Central Florida.

This year, Rock for Hunger will plug in at The Plaza Live, with multiple stages, food trucks, crafts, and our first ever art wall created by kids in the community.

Five-time Grammy winning bassist Victor Wooten will be headlining this year’s event. Wooten hit the worldwide scene in 1990 as a founding member of the super-group Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, and has won every major award given to a bass guitarist including Bassist of the Year in Bass Player Magazine.

Joining him will be great musicians like Arpetrio, Emily Kopp, Chris Burns, and Savi Fernandez Band.

Tickets start at $25. Show starts at 6pm.

Proceeds from the sixth edition of Rock for Hunger will go to New Image Youth Center, an organization focused on at-risk youth, and Heart to Heart, a support group for single mothers.

If you want to be part of the video, the show starts at 9pm. AGR is playing with Fell On Deaf Ears. Cover is $8 and it is 18 and over.

Central Florida Stick Night at Natura Coffee & Tea

In the 1970’s a man named Emmett Chapman invented a musical instrument that is now known as a Chapman Stick®.

Basically, it is a large guitar-like instrument with a huge fretboard that is played upright, instead of slung across the shoulder on a strap. It’s rare to find someone who plays it, but Orlando has several that do.

Local musicians Jeremy Birdsall and Juan R. Leon will be joined by Flint Blade (another Stick player) and drummer Reed Hayes for a jam fest this Friday night (July 28).

The event will take place at Natura Coffee & Tea (12078 Collegiate Way) starting at 9pm. Birdsall says the evening will end with a Q & A and “petting zoo”, where audience members can try out the Chapman Stick® for themselves.

It’s free to attend.

Southern Fried Sunday for August 2011 at Will’s Pub this Weekend

Doing anything this Sunday, August 21? Then head on over to Will’s Pub for another installment of Southern Fried Sunday.

What is SFS? It’s an all day party with local music and great food.

This weekend’s edition has tunes by The Lonesome City Travelers, The Mud Flappers, The Kitschy Kittens Burlesque Troop with Giddy Up Go and WPRK’s DJ White Lightnin’ plus a special festival closing performance by Tampa’s The Lambasters (formerly Nervous Turkey).

Grub includes a BBQ and fried chicken dinner, along with sides. Yum!

Best of all, it’s only $7 to attend, or $2 if you have a Summer Stock Fest weekend wristband.

SFS runs from 5:30pm to 11:30pm at Will’s Pub (1042 N. Mills Ave).
