ABC Fine Wine & Spirits is celebrating 80 years of doing business in the Sunshine State, and they’ve partnered with Crooked Can Brewery of Winter Garden for a celebratory brew called Steam Jack.
The original store, Jack’s Friendly Neighborhood Bar, was located in the heart of downtown Orlando at the corner of North Orange and Wall Street. Jack Holloway saw the end of prohibition as an opportunity and opened up in his neighborhood in 1936.
ABC Liquors was then born in 1950, and then in 1993 ABC Liquors began adding the name ABC Fine Wine & Spirits, You can now find ABC Fine Wine & Spirits throughout the state of Florida.
Steam Jack is an “uncommon Florida Common” beer. It’s the namesake of ABC founder Jack Holloway. This Florida Common is a 100% American Style Lager, brewed at warmer temperatures to bring out the malt flavor.
In honor of this festive occasion, there was a party to celebrate in the brewery, where invited guests, such as myself, got to try the new brew.
There is natural cane sugar used in this beer, making it a tad sweet. There is also a nice balance of the malts and hops. The color is a beautiful deep amber color. This is an easy drinking beer coming in at 5.2% ABV. It would make for a great game day beer.
“I always had a knack for anything in the industry, so I follow in his footsteps and try to make him happy at the end of the day, and do his legacy some justice,” said Chad Holloway of his grandpa Jack, and the Jack in Steam Jack. Chad makes up half of the original brewing duo at Crooked Can; Kent Waugh is the other half.
Steam Jack will be Crooked Can’s first beer to be disturbed throughout the state of Florida, and it will be available at all ABC Fine Wine & Spirits.
