Orlando Dining Round-Up March 11, 2016: The COOP, Disney Springs, Ravenous Pig

In this week’s dining news round-up are several chef’s dinners, free sushi, a new opening, an a closing. Are you hungry? Let’s dive in…

Chef John Rivers and Chef Whitney Miller at The COOP in Winter Park

The COOP launches “A Southern Affair,” a new cooking demonstration series this month on March 16. Chef-owner John Rivers and Chef Whitney Miller will kick off the first demo with Crawfish-Pimento Mac n’ Cheese and White Chocolate Bread Pudding Beignets.

This event, which starts at 6:30pm, is free to attend, and following the demo, there will be samplings of the dishes, and an open format Q&A on the indoor patio. RSVP at the Facebook event page to let them know you’re interested, but I’d suggest getting there early for a good seat.

The interactive and intimate experience will offer the unique opportunity for guests to learn from and sample dishes with award-winning chefs from near and far.

Speaking of The COOP, the Winter Park restaurant will host its first ever Low-Country Boil on Saturday, March 19. Inspired by a classic Southern seafood boil, Chef John Rivers and newly appointed Chef de Cuisine, Whitney Miller will put their spin on the one pot dish, which includes potatoes, corn and a mix of peel-and-eat seafood favorites.

Cost is $16.99 per person and will include samples of several Orlando Brewing‘s most popular brews, along with free live entertainment. The event runs from 11am to 9pm.

Morimoto Asia and Cirque du Soleil at Disney Springs are partnering together to offer complimentary sushi after you see a performance of La Nouba. Simply visit Morimoto Asia’s Forbidden Lounge after the show (the door is on the Raglan Road side of the building), and present your show ticket stub along with a beverage order. You will then receive your choice of a complimentary four-piece sushi vegetable roll or California roll.

This offer is valid through July 31, 2016, and only the same day as your show. Limit one sushi comp per ticket stub, and one beverage purchase is required for each order of sushi with this promotion.

The first is a four-course lunch on March 14, with wine pairings. Cost is $55 per person (+ tax/gratuity), and the menu is inspired by Restaurant Jammet, the finest and most famous restaurant in Ireland from 1901-1967, frequented by celebrities and notable dignitaries.

The second is a five-course dinner on March 15, with wine pairings. Cost is $115 per person (+ tax/gratuity), and this menu is also inspired by Ireland’s Restaurant Jammet.

Bistro Le Coq au Vin has closed in Dr Phillips. It opened last October, but according to Scott Joseph, it had issues with qualifying for a full liquor license due to its smaller seating size, as well as noise complaints from nearby restaurants who objected to Sunday brunch’s live musicians. No word on what will replace the eatery, but the original Le Coq au Vin in Orlando is still running smoothly.
