Nine Dragons at Epcot's China Pavilion - General Tso Chicken

Nine Dragons at Epcot‘s China Pavilion has a new prix fixe lunch menu in honor of the Year of the Monkey. The menu offers three courses for $17.98: Appetizer of spring rolls or pot stickers; a choice of three entrées – Happily Family (with sliced chicken breast, beef and shrimp stir fry), Moo Goo Gai Pan (with stir-fried chicken breast, mushrooms and snow peas), OR General Tso’s Chicken Buns Lunch Box (with three steamed buns and hot-and-sour soup); dessert is strawberry-red bean ice cream or ginger-caramel ice cream.

Another addition to the menu, just for Year of the Monkey are three steamed buns, with your choice of: braised pork belly served with chili aioli; sweet-and-sour, batter-fried fish buns topped with pork floss (dry, fluffy shredded pork seasoned with soy sauce and sugar); and General Tso’s Chicken buns with batter-fried chicken breast.

The Rosen College of Hospitality Management is hosting an upcoming Spring Dinner Series Featuring Distinguished Guest Chefs. For $30 per person (plus tax), guests will enjoy a gourmet, four-course meal. Each menu and meal, along with the dining area, will be created and managed completely by students with the help of a special guest chef.

The first one is “A Taste of Asia” on February 5. Subsequent dinners will take place March 3, March 24, and April 14. For tickets or more information, visit hospitality.ucf.edu/dinner-series.

Orlando Brewing will tap its Uncle Matt’s Organic Grapefruit Pale Ale, first created in 2013, at 1pm on Saturday, February 13. This 100% Citra hopped beer is brewed with fresh grapefruit zest from Uncle Matt’s Organic, hence the name. It has a citrus zing and light tropical fruit notes.

Following the tapping, Orlando Brewing will host a local food micromarket from 3-6pm, with a free brewery tour after, and live music at 9pm. So I guess go early and stay all night.

Bento Asian Kitchen + Sushi is offering Year of the Monkey specials next week for those who dine wearing red. On Monday, Feb 8, get 1/2 off any chicken rice bowl. On Tuesday, Feb 9, get 1/2 off Szechuan beef noodle soup. On Wednesday, Feb 10, get 1/2 off any classic sushi roll. There are three Orlando locations to choose from.

Pharmacy in Dr. Phillips is now offering a weekend brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 2pm. Guests have a choice of any entrée and cocktail for $25. Additional cocktails are $10 each.

Entrées include a Pulled Pork Hash Eggs Benedict, a 3 Farm Egg Omelette, Buttermilk & Chive Waffles served with scrambled eggs, Pharmacy-cured Salmon & Brown Sugar Cured Bacon, and Pharmacy Mac & Cheese. The table also gets a complimentary assortment of freshly fried chocolate and spiced glazed donuts.

Universal Orlando has partnered with Coca-Cola to create a new limited soda flavor to celebrate 25 years of #UniversalMoments. The flavor, Celebrity Fizz, is a mixture of orange and vanilla flavors (reminiscent of an orange dreamsicle), and is available in the park’s Coca-Cola Freestyle machines through this month (February).

Verde Cantina is the name of the new restaurant opening in the space formerly occupied by Tijuana Flats in Thornton Park. The menu will feature “Mexican soul food,” meaning more traditional Mexican comfort foods, not Tex-Mex. They will open sometime this year, and feature daily lunch and dinner, along with a Sunday brunch.

Speaking of Mexican food, Mesa 21 is looking to enter the Central Florida market with two eateries. One will be a full service restaurant at Lake Ivanhoe Park, in the space formerly occupied by Gargi’s Lakeside Italian Ristorante. The building will be renovated and will include an ooutside patio, with a proposed opening Summer/Fall 2016. The second will be a fast casual version of the brand in Clermont, at 2440 Hwy 50, near N. Hancock Rd. No word on an opening date for this location.
