New Year’s Eve is a big holiday for people to go out and celebrate with drinks. It’s also a big holiday for drunk driving.

4 Ways to Get Home New Year's Eve in Orlando If You've Had Too Much to Drink

We at CitySurfing Orlando want you to spend New Year’s Day safe, and not in jail or dead, so we’ve put together a few ways to get home from the bars and parties that don’t involve driving yourself.

AAA Tow-To-Go

Since its inception in 1998, Tow to Go has safely removed more than 23,000 intoxicated drivers from the roads. The service will give you a local ride within a 10-mile radius to a safe location. Simply call (855) 2-TOW-2-GO or (855) 286-9246 and a AAA tow truck takes the vehicle and the driver home.

It is designed to be used as a last resort, so try to use one of our other suggestions, first. It is also offered based on availability of AAA Service Technicians and tow trucks during times of high call volume. For more info, visit aaa.com.

The Designated Driver

It’s the best way to make sure you get home safe. Find a friend who will drive and pledges not to drink for the evening. Sometimes bars will offer free soda for designated drivers, but if not, offer to buy them their non-alcoholic drinks and maybe give them gas money.

Lyft

One of two ride-sharing services operating in the Orlando-area. Lyft drivers will pick you up at home and drop you off at the bar, and vice versa, for a fee. Be aware that NYE tends to bring out surge pricing on the service during busy time periods, and this could easily triple or more your bill. Don’t order a ride during surge pricing! Wait a few minutes and try again, until it ends.

If you’ve never used Lyft, you can download the app, and then use the code MICHELLE4321 to get $20 towards your first ride.

Uber

The other of the two ride-sharing services, Uber drivers will also take you door to door, for a fee. And as I warned above, NYE tends to bring out surge pricing on the service during busy time periods, and this could easily triple or more your bill. Don’t order a ride during surge pricing! Wait a few minutes and try again, until it ends.

If you’ve never used Uber, you can download the app, and then use the code l2oac to get $15 towards your first ride.

Regardless of how you get home, please get home safe. Remember, in Florida, the average DUI can cost up to $7000 in fines, plus the possible loss of your license.

We wish you all a very happy New Year’s Eve and hope you’ll continue to read CitySurfing Orlando in 2016!
